Location & Points of Interest - Le torri (The towers). Built to defend the village from the continuous raids of the Saracens and Turkish pirates. Located at Fornillo, la Trasita and la Sponda, some of them can be seen even inland around the village.
- Le ville (The villas). Dating back to Roman times, here lived the nobles who came to relax. You can find them along the coast and inland, following the classical terraced shape of the territory. The most famous is the one found in the Baia di Positano. Today there are only a few remains of it because it is covered in digging materials and from the building of the Chiesa dell’Assunta.
- Le grotte preistoriche. The prehistoric grottos date back to different historical periods. They are scattered all along the coast and present evidence of human life in those areas from long ago.
- L’arcipelago de “Li Galli” (Archipelago of Li Galli). Three miles off Positano, it is a group of 3 small isles named 'il Gallo Lungo', 'la Rotondo,' and 'il Castelluccio.' According to the legend the mythical sirens lived there and tried to enchant Ulysses with their hypnotic song. On the biggest of the three stands a Roman Villa, which belonged to the Russian dancer and set designer Rudolph Nureyev. Below the surface, in the depths of the sea, there are numerous pieces of wreckage, which have increased and contributed to the myth of the sirens.
- Shops. The elegant boutiques in the centre represent the typical fashion from Positano which is exported everywhere in the world.
- Bay of Salerno - Those looking for a scenic drive should take a trip along the Amalfi Drive and pay a visit to the Bay of Salerno. Along the way you will find some gorgeous limestone cliffs and the steep, winding roads afford some truly awesome panoramic views. Be sure to drive carefully, watch out for sharp bends and note that local buses always have the right of way.
Positano tourist attraction open: daily - 24 hours Positano tourist attraction admission: free - Naples (37 miles) – Naples is the third most-populated city in Italy and the biggest city in Southern Italy. Its name comes from the Greek Neapolis meaning new city. Its close proximity to many interesting sites, such as Pompeii and the Bay of Naples, makes it a good base for exploring the area. Naples is a lively and vibrant city, full of wonderful historical and artistic treasures and narrow, winding streets with small shops, making it worth at least a few days visit. Pizza, one of Italy's most famous foods, originated in Naples and pizza is taken very seriously here. You'll find lots of great pizza places but be sure you look for one with a wood-burning oven! Eggplant Parmesan originated in Naples and spaghetti also became popular in Naples; try it with clams or mussels. Seafood is abundant and very good in Naples.
- Sorrento (12 miles) – This small town is wonderfully located over white steep cliffs and offers a fantastic view over the Bay of Naples. Sorrento lies on a Tufa terrace and is enclosed by impressive rocks of the Limestone Mountains. For 2000 years visitors from all over the world have been attracted to Sorrento by breathtaking sunsets and fragrances of orange and lemon gardens.
- Salerno (27 miles) - Salerno is the main town of the "Costiera Amalfitana", situated in the middle of two enchanting coasts, the Amalfi and Cilento coasts. This lively port is much less chaotic than Naples and is well off most traveler’s itineraries, giving it a pleasant, relaxed air.
